Kebijakan Plagiasi

Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Teknik Informatika STMIK DCI is committed to maintaining originality, academic integrity, and scholarly publication ethics. All submitted manuscripts must be original works of the authors, free from plagiarism, and compliant with applicable citation and source acknowledgment requirements. This policy is implemented to ensure the quality and credibility of scholarly publications in the fields of informatics engineering and information technology.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another party's ideas, data, text, source code, algorithms, tables, figures, diagrams, system designs, or other works without providing appropriate acknowledgment and citation.

Forms of plagiarism and violations of originality include:

  • Direct plagiarism, which involves copying part or all of another person's text or work without properly acknowledging the source.

  • Paraphrasing plagiarism, which involves using ideas or information from other sources by changing the wording or sentence structure without providing appropriate citations.

  • Source code and algorithm plagiarism, which involves using another party's source code, algorithms, or software components without proper attribution or the necessary permissions.

  • Misuse of images and data, which involves using images, tables, diagrams, datasets, experimental results, or other materials belonging to third parties without acknowledging the sources and complying with applicable usage requirements.

  • Self-plagiarism, which involves reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate disclosure and citation.

  • Duplicate publication, which involves publishing or submitting the same work, or work with substantial overlap, without proper disclosure.

  • Research result manipulation, which involves dishonestly presenting data, software testing results, experimental findings, or system evaluations in a manner that misleads readers.

2. Originality Standards

Every manuscript submitted to Jurnal Teknik Informatika STMIK DCI must meet the following requirements:

  • It must be an original work of the authors and demonstrate a clear scientific contribution.

  • It must not have been previously published and must not be under consideration for publication in another journal.

  • All sources of quotations, references, datasets, source code, images, and third-party materials used in the research must be properly acknowledged.

  • The citation and reference style specified in the journal's Author Guidelines must be followed.

  • Data, methods, testing results, and conclusions must be presented honestly and responsibly.

  • The reuse of materials from the authors' own previous works and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) must be disclosed whenever required by the journal's policies.

By submitting a manuscript, authors are deemed to declare that their work complies with the originality standards and that they understand the applicable plagiarism policy.

3. Manuscript Similarity Check

All submitted manuscripts will be screened using text similarity detection software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or other tools used by the journal's editorial team, before entering the peer-review process.

As a draft policy, the journal may establish a similarity index threshold of less than 30%, with appropriate exclusions for reference lists, legitimate direct quotations, common technical terminology, and other sections that do not indicate plagiarism. This threshold must be formally established by the journal's management before implementation.

Similarity check results will not be used as the sole basis for determining whether plagiarism has occurred. Editors will assess the sources of similarity, the context in which the text is used, the accuracy of citations, and the extent of substantive overlap.

If the similarity index exceeds the established threshold or indications of plagiarism are identified, the manuscript may be returned to the authors for revision and re-examination. Manuscripts that continue to violate the policy after clarification may be rejected.

4. Levels of Violation and Editorial Actions

Actions concerning suspected plagiarism will be determined based on the severity of the violation, the available evidence, and its impact on scientific integrity.

a. Minor Violations

Minor violations include citation errors, limited similarity in specific sections, or technical terminology and descriptions that have not been properly referenced.

Action: The manuscript will be returned to the authors for corrections to quotations, citations, or the relevant sections.

b. Moderate Violations

Moderate violations include reusing substantial portions of one's own work without appropriate disclosure, copying several sections of a manuscript without adequate citations, or substantial overlap with previously published works.

Action: The manuscript may be rejected. Authors may submit a new manuscript after making comprehensive revisions in accordance with the journal's policies.

c. Serious Violations

Serious violations include extensive plagiarism, presenting another person's work as one's own, using third-party source code or research data without appropriate attribution, manipulating research results, or engaging in serious duplicate publication.

Action: The manuscript will be rejected. The editor may issue written notification to the authors, restrict future submissions in accordance with the applicable policies, and report the case to the relevant institution when necessary.

All actions will be proportionate to the violation and based on the findings of the investigation. Authors will be given an opportunity to provide clarification before a final decision is made, where appropriate to the nature of the case and the journal's procedures.

5. Handling Plagiarism After Publication

If suspected plagiarism is identified in a published article, Jurnal Teknik Informatika STMIK DCI will conduct an investigation based on the available evidence and request clarification from the relevant parties when necessary.

If a violation is confirmed, editorial actions may include:

  • Correction/Erratum: Issuing a correction when the issue can be rectified without compromising the article's principal validity.

  • Expression of Concern: Publishing an expression of concern when necessary while further investigation is ongoing.

  • Retraction: Retracting the article when serious misconduct is confirmed and compromises the integrity of the publication.

  • Notification to authors and relevant institutions: Informing the authors and their affiliated institutions as necessary and in accordance with applicable requirements.

All cases will be handled in accordance with the principles of scholarly publication ethics and relevant guidelines, including those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

6. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors bear full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their submitted manuscripts. Each author must ensure that all sources are properly acknowledged and that the use of third-party materials, data, source code, and software complies with applicable attribution and licensing requirements.

All authors are responsible for their respective contributions and must cooperate with clarification procedures if suspected misconduct is identified. Responsibility and any actions taken against individual authors will be determined based on their involvement, the available evidence, and the investigation findings, rather than being automatically applied equally to all authors.

Jurnal Teknik Informatika STMIK DCI does not tolerate plagiarism or any form of academic integrity violation. All manuscripts must meet the standards of originality, transparency, and scholarly publication ethics to maintain readers' trust and the quality of publications in the field of informatics engineering.
